Gravner Degustation Dinner

A rare chance to try some of the worlds most natural wines

Following on boldly from the wonderful evening with Vie di Romans winemaker Gian Franco, we are happy to announce our second 2016 Special Dinner Tasting event is going to be on Wed 1st June.

We are very proud to showcase wines from another Italian wine producer who is one of the world’s top wine-makers; Josko Gravner, who makes some of the greatest ‘white’ wines in the world.

Join us for an evening with his superb wines and absolutely fabulous food.
At this stage, we are only able to take bookings up to a maximum of 20 people, so please get in touch ASAP and express your interest .

There may well be a possibility of a second evening on Friday 3rd June.

Our host will be Mateja Gravner, daughter of Josko Gravner.


Gravner’s principle wine is his beloved Ribolla Gialla, a grape with a 1000 year history in Italy’s Collio, up on the North-East border with Slovenia. It is farmed without chemicals, with a biodiversity program, picked late, long macerated underground in large terracotta vessels, and then aged a further 6 years in large barrels, like top notch traditional Barolo and the like. Ribolla’s sister blend called ‘Breg’ (Sauvignon Blanc, Chardonnay, Riesling and Pinot Grigio) is made the same way.

Amazingly, these wines are far, far greater than sum of their parts: it is not for nothing has Gravner been elected wine maker of the World (2006), and of Italy (2007). In the course of the work we do to ascertain the quality of the wine, often after looking at some of the greatest wines of the world, we come back to Gravner at the end of the night: not only does it pick up even from the last major red, it carries on effortlessly, like changing into 6th, 7th gear on the autobahn.

During the course of the evening we will taste the '06, '07 and their Red Breg (100% Pignolo) 2004 over multiple courses. We will no doubt also discover why Gravner does not use the term ‘orange wine’, which his UK importer invented in 2004 whilst drinking Gravner’s wine. To celebrate this rare visit Mateja will be leading us through the wines and give us some history behind her father’s dedication and passion.
