Green Room Grenache/Syrah 2017
The Green Room Grenache Syrah is a new look at a classic Rhone style blend. The Grenache from a McLaren Vale vineyard planted in 1946 is the focal point of this piece. Making up the majority of the blend (92%), most of the Grenache is whole bunch pressed with the fruit spending anywhere from 28 to 88 days on skins. Got a whole lotta skins. The detail here is mesmerizing. Taras says that the 2017 releases will be his "prettiest" and finest wines to date - that is no more obvious than in the Green Room release. Phenolics, clean natural acid and palate tension are the rhythm section of the wine, with floral highlights and bright fruit making up the melody and harmonics. This is a young, vibrant, dazzling version of McLaren Vale Grenache which just gets better every year.
What it Tastes Like
Light and juicy, almost pinot-esque, version of Grenache on show here. A web of light feathery tannin. Crisp, nervy acid driving its way through the mouth. It's a flirty wine. Almost pixie-like with a huge score on the glugability scale.
