Distilled in 2006 at the Deanston distillery on the banks of the river Teith, this big, bold new bottling comes from Signatory Vintage. Bottled after 11 years of maturation, this single first fill sherry butt has produced a whisky of incredible strength, coming in at 64.4%. The nose does have a prickle to it, but with time and/or water, it gives way to aromas of dried apricot, warm orange marmalade and freshly baked vanilla sponge, dusted with icing sugar. Without water, this is a dram with plenty of kick - big notes of malty digestive biscuits, wine gums and home-made vanilla ice cream. The finish has a blast of hot spice (clove, white pepper) and a dusty, oaky flavour.
