Kusuda Martinborough 2022 Syrah - Winemaker's Notes:
Dates harvested: 11 - 16th April. Harvested by hand with rigorous selection
Sugar level (Brix): 21 – 22
Alcohol: 13%
Total Acidity: n/a
pH: n/a
Vinification: 7.4% whole cluster, cold soaked for 2-5 days. Fermented in open
stainless-steel vats with pumping-over and hand plunging, total period of
maceration for 26 - 29 days. Aged in French (17% new) oak barriques for 21
months. Unfined and bottled after coarse filtration.

Bottles produced: 1,689 x 750ml, 15 x 1,500ml, 3 x 3,000ml
Remarks: Started with a warm spring. Wet weather early summer was cancelled out by very dry January. As we started to anticipate very high quality and quantity,
unusual rain pattern arrived in early February and the optimism was dashed.
Very dry spell arrived second half of the month and continued into March,
which was critical. Some rain later in March but dry weather returned in
April, harvested under clear sky. Strict sorting reduced the expected higher
yield significantly, 13hl/ha.
